Our recommended system setup for optimal performance with novel software and systems

To ensure optimal performance when using our software, the following system requirements are recommended:

• Memory (RAM): 16GB
• Processor: 4-core CPU
• USB Ports: A minimum of 4 USB 3.0 ports, or a reliable USB 3.0 hub (depending on the number of cameras and the type of connection used)
• USB2 Cameras: For setups using USB2 cameras, a desktop PC with an additional USB board is recommended (with a maximum of 2 cameras per board).
• Hard Drive: Sufficient storage to maintain compressed video files. An estimated storage requirement for Emed is approximately 10MB per camera per trial (3-5 seconds).
• RAM Drive: In some cases, a RAM drive with a size of approximately 4GB is recommended for temporary video storage during recording. Videos stored on the RAM drive will be compressed and saved to the hard drive after the measurement is completed. The need for a RAM drive depends on the camera type, resolution, and the number of cameras in use. Systems with 1-2 cameras may manage with standard flash drives.

Requirements for Installations Including Databases

For installations that involve database management, particularly in clinical, hospital, or university environments, the following requirements should be considered:

• Database Management System: Microsoft SQL Server 2019 Standard (required if the database exceeds 10GB, which is typical for databases with active daily use over more than 10 years, including Emed data and reports).
• SQL Server Configuration:
  • An individual SQL Server instance for Novel should be installed with support for Native Client and an opened TCP/IP port.
  • If users need to create a new database, an SA (System Administrator) account should be provided.
  • For working with an existing database, “Owner” rights for the database should be granted.

Special Cases for High-Speed Cameras

For specific cases involving high-speed cameras such as IDS uEye or Basler, additional specifications may be required:

• Network Interface: A 1Gb Ethernet board with support for large data packages (specifications will depend on the camera manufacturer).

• iOS: iPhone 13 or newer
• Android: Android 10 or higher
