How to set up and start measurements

1. Preparing your loadsol/loadpad

  • For Standard Electronics Users

    1. Insert Battery:

      • Use a CR2032 battery (preferably Varta for best fit).
      • Open the battery compartment located at the back. ( please check this video for details)
      • Insert the battery, ensuring correct polarity, then close the compartment securely.

    2. Power On:

      • The device powers on automatically when the battery is inserted.
      • or please press the power button.
  • For Pro Electronics Users

    1. Charge the Device:

      • Connect the USB cable to the charging port.
      • Ensure the device is fully charged before first use.
         

    2. Power On and Check Indicators:

      • Turn on the device and observe the LED indicators for power and status signals. (short green flash follow by double blue flash)

2. Connecting to the loadapp

    1. Download & Install:

      • Get the loadapp from the App Store or Google Play.

    2. Enable Bluetooth:

      • Ensure Bluetooth is active on your device.

3. Run loadapp and Performing Your First Measurement

  1. Open loadapp and then to go to “Manage Sensors” and here it will be shown which sensors are close by to get connected.
  2. Select “Connect” then the first sensor will be connected, and then select the second sensor.
  3. Now, it’s highly recommended to check the calibration. For loadsol, this could be done with body weight, while for loadpad, some dead weight could be used to check calibration. In this case, unload the left insole, then unload the right insole, and confirm.
  4. You can see the forces on each side. If one wants to display in kilograms, you can toggle on top. Lift one foot off the ground, and you should see within 10% of the body weight of the person. If this is not the case, one can adjust the sensors again by pressing “Start Adjustment” at the bottom.
  5. Click back twice and select measurement.
  6. You may select ‘Live Chart,’ and it will display the frame rate of the sensors.
  7. You need to perform a zero measurement. Please unload the left foot and press ‘Zero,’ then unload the right foot and press ‘Zero.’
  8. If you want to enable video mode during measurement, open the menu at the top right and turn it on.
  9. Now, you can ask the subject to start walking or perform the exercise and press ‘Start.’ You will now see the live display. The red curve represents the left foot, and the blue curve represents the right foot.
  10. If one wants to stop the measurement, simply press the stop button on the bottom right, and it’ll confirm whether you want to stop the measurement. Press stop again, and then the data will be saved temporarily

4. Save, Export & Preview your data

  • Here you have a quick overview of how many sensors were connected, what was the measurement duration, and it’s also possible to add a note. So you can add your note regarding measurement  and then press save, and then press save once more. Now the data is saved locally on the device.
  • You can now go to ‘Start New‘ to perform a second measurement. If needed, you can also perform a new zero measurement for the left and right foot before starting again. You can stop the measurement, and we always recommend adding a note to ensure you remember exactly what was done during this trial. Finally, press ‘Save.'”
  • If you would like to view a preview of the previously measured data, go to ‘Preview.‘ Here, you can see the sequence of measurements that were taken. Each measurement includes its starting time, and please note that the latest measurement is always at the top.

 

Select one file from the archive, and now you can view the individual data by pressing the graph. You can now see the total curves as well as the sub-areas.

  • Open the menu at the top right, and enable the legend to toggle the display of individual curves on and off.

  • Show or hide specific data areas by tapping on their names at the bottom of the curve.

  • Use two fingers to zoom in on the graph for a detailed view.

  • Press and hold one finger to display the values not only for what is currently shown but for all regions.

Go back to the overview of the measurement. The data can also be exported and saved as an ASCII file.

Status LED:

loadsol:

green blink (1 time every 1.4 seconds) ready to connect via BT
green blink (1 time every 5 seconds) system is measuring
LED is off
  • Electronics in sleep mode or battery not inserted
  • connection stablished, not measuring

loadsol Pro:

single white blink charging
solid white charging completed
solid dim yellow programming firmware in progress or finished
double blue blink BT advertising (i.e waiting for BT connnection)
single blue blink connected via BT
double green blink connected via BT & measuring to OBM
double green blink + double blue blink BT advertising & measuring to OBM
sinle green blink measuring & live streaming over BT
red blink battery low or OBM full or corrupted

Troubleshooting Common Issues:

Red light blinking on loadsol pro for a few seconds

If the internal memory of the insole is full, the insole will blink red when starting the measurement. You need to erase the flash memory:

  1. Connect insole to novel scientific studio
  2. Save all measurement data via novel scientific studio
  3. click on “Erase flash memory”
  4. Restart the sensor by long-pressing the start button for 10s

or

  1. Connect insole to loadapp
  2. Click on the sensor and open sensor properties
  3. Scroll down to “erase flash memory”
  4. Restart the sensor by long-pressing the start button for 10s
